ICH-Work: Energy Work for Trauma Healing

Mann und Frau sitzen sich gegenüber

ICH Work (=inner constellation healing), based on the Identity-Oriented Psychotrauma Theory (IoPT) by Franz Ruppert, is a profound and transformative method of energy work for trauma healing. It enables you to dissolve symbiotic trauma entanglements and reconnect with your true self. In this blog post, you’ll learn how ICH Work functions, how it differs from other methods like family constellations, and why it is so effective in healing old wounds and unlocking your full potential.

What Is ICH Work?

ICH Work begins with the formulation of a personal intention statement that reflects your current issue or inner question. This statement becomes the foundation for the work, helping you connect with your inner parts to uncover blocked emotions and suppressed needs. Unlike traditional family constellations based on Bert Hellinger’s approach, you actively work with your own self and your inner parts. This allows you to distinguish between foreign, adopted parts from your family system or trauma perpetrators and your own younger, wounded parts, with the goal of either releasing (perpetrator introjects) or lovingly integrating them.

ICH Work can be done in individual or group sessions – online via Zoom or in-person during workshops or retreats. Its flexible format adapts to your unique healing journey and pace, making it especially valuable.

How Does a Session Work?

The process is straightforward yet deeply impactful:

1. Formulating the intention statement: at the beginning, you formulate a sentence (or a question, as a current or target state, a wish, a symptom) with "I" that is currently bothering you. An example could be: "I feel ashamed."

2. Engaging with inner parts: in individual sessions, you interact directly with your inner parts. In group sessions, resonance bodies represent your inner parts, making unconscious dynamics visible.

3. Releasing emotions: you encounter your own trauma-related emotions and work through blocked feelings. This process is deep and healing, so a stable mental state is essential.

4. Transformation: the session concludes with the integration or release of parts, leaving you feeling empowered and clear.

The Story of “I Feel Ashamed”

Here’s an example that illustrates the power of ICH Work:

One client formulated the intention statement “I feel ashamed.” Beneath this, she revealed a longing to express herself more freely but felt held back. As a child, she often felt unseen and used shame as a defense mechanism to stay small and avoid standing out—a survival strategy deeply ingrained in her psyche.

During the session, it became evident that the “shame” part was a playful, lighthearted part that simply wanted to have fun and enjoy life. Through the work, this part transformed into “love.” The client realized that her journey was ultimately about self-love: accepting herself as she is and allowing her light to shine.

What Makes ICH Work Special?

ICH Work stands apart from other methods, such as family constellations, due to its deeper, more individualized approach:

You are actively involved: you interact directly in self-responsibility with your inner parts rather than being represented by others.

Dissolving symbiotic entanglements: we are often symbiotically entangled in relationships and follow unconscious trauma survival strategies. These are revealed here as illusions and transformed through taking personal responsibility.

Integrating split-off parts: this is not about forgiving family members, but about naming trauma perpetrators as such (including parents) and thus reintegrating our own split-off parts.

No prior knowledge required: everything you need is already stored in your cells and subconscious. All that’s required is a willingness to engage with the process.

Holistic approach: the goal is not just to recognize trauma but to truly transform it and progress on your unique healing journey.

Who Is This Work For?

ICH Work is ideal for you if:

• You are ready to engage with your inner themes and emotions.

• You feel mentally stable and are not in an acute crisis.

• You are willing to take responsibility for your healing journey.

No prior therapeutic experience is necessary, although familiarity with trauma theory or symbiotic entanglements can be beneficial.

Conclusion: Rediscovering Your Inner Strength

ICH Work is an invitation to explore your inner world and heal old wounds. It shows you that you are already whole – just as you are. This process is about rediscovering yourself and stepping into your own power.

As in the example of the client with the intention statement “I feel ashamed,” you too can learn to release limiting patterns like shame, fear, or doubt, and embrace yourself with love and compassion. If you’re ready to embark on this journey, ICH Work can provide powerful support to transform your life sustainably.
